Halon Gas

Halon gas is a fire extinguishing agent used to suppress fires without leaving residues, with the most commonly used types being Halon 1211 and Halon 1301. However, due to its ozone-depleting properties, its production is prohibited by the Montreal Protocol. Brazil, along with other countries that have signed the protocol, allows accredited companies by IBAMA and CETESB to receive and recycle the gases to meet the fire protection needs, as no equally efficient substitute has been developed for this task.

Services

GESPI holds the largest reserve of Halon gas in Brazil and is certified by IBAMA and CETESB to facilitate recycling and handle the disposal of Halon from companies that are decommissioning or upgrading their fire suppression systems. Additionally, the company is qualified to conduct the review and hydrostatic testing of Halon extinguishers used in:

  • Fire suppression in air and maritime navigation;
  • Military applications;
  • Cultural and artistic collections;
  • Power generation and transformation plants for electricity and nuclear energy;
  • Offshore oil extraction platforms.
